A phone that has no battery - Energy from radio waves

In the era of fancy smartphones with amazing and vibrant displays and having a spectacular camera but all these phones have a drawback of power consumption.Let even your phone cost as high as 1 lakh but at the end of the day you have to reach out to charging port, so in order to avoid this hassle engineers from the University of Washington have come out with a solution.

They have designed a very basic model of mobile phone with which of course you cant take an amazing selfie or 4k videos but for sure you can make calls for 24/7 without worrying about charging because this phone has no battery. And even it doesn't have a display but ridiculously it has a headphone jack which even a 1lakh phone doesn't have it.

Along with the headphone jack, you also get a capacitive keypad for entering the phone number and a small light like indicator which will help you know that you have entered a number. You may wonder why is this phone so weird because this phone has no battery in it the engineers have used a technique called as "Backscattering" where they have generated power from the radio waves, the power generated by this method is quite enough to support the energy consumed during the phone call.

There is a base station for the phone where it is connected to so when a call is placed the signal reaches the base station and from there the call is placed through Skype. This cell phone work without any trouble up to a range of 15 mts from the base station. This is an 8-month-old technology but this idea can be used in mobile towers because it has more capacity to support many phones and can also have more wide range.

Hope we might see this technology get implemented in future in a large scale and everyone gets benefited or even who knows any one of you reading this can also take this as a project and can make the earth a better place to live.
