How does fast charging works?

In this fast world each and everything is getting faster day by day so even in recent times the charging of our phone has got this new technology called as fast charging it has many terms like fast charging or turbo or adaptive fast charging but all means the same. So first let's understand how does a battery gets charged so fast.

Normally charging is based on the amount of power you supply to the battery so it gets charged, in the case of fast charging it allows more amount of power input when compared to traditional charging this results in quick charging times. We have to even understand that all phones are not capable of this technology as it requires a specific chip which will support this. So a phone with a normal chip which does not support fast charging will not charge faster even if you use fast chargers.

So basically this was developed by Qualcomm in order to increase the charge speeds and currently it has 4 generations of quick charging i.e. Quick charge 1,2,3,4.

In Quick charge 1 which was first of its type and developed 5-6 years ago and it was implemented in chips like 400 600 and 800. A normal charger allows a power input of 5V at 1A, which gives 5W of power to the battery, but Quick charge 1 allowed an input of 5V at 2A, which gives 10W of power which is double when compared to the normal charger and it helped to charge the battery to 50% in 30 min. This high power input was allowed to the battery only till the 50% charge after that it sends a normal power as a normal charger.

So in Quick charge 2.0, they solved this problem with a new chip. It had varied power inputs which was sent to the battery depending on the amount of the battery is charged so it had about three levels of power input.
5V at 2A, which gives 10w,
9V at 2A, which gives 18w,
12V at 1.67A which gives 18W,
So these three levels were used to charge the battery so it increased the charging speeds when compared to its previous generation, but it also had a problem with the change of power input was very drastic from 18W to 10W so in order to solve that Qualcomm introduced Quick charge 3.0 which was used in chips like 630 618 820 617 etc.

Quick charge 3.0 was based on a granular voltage rating, which means depending on the battery percentage the power input varied slightly at a difference of 2W, which was less when compared to drastic changes of nearly 8W in its previous generation. This resulted in faster charging time and the phones remain cool because there was optimal power input.

Quick charge 4.0 was based on the dual charging method which resulted in 25% faster-charging rates and 20% reduced temp while charging and it promised to give 5 hours of battery in 5 minutes*.
